Rules of the Road USCG Question #669 (Set 10)

BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND In which situation does a risk of collision exists?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option D — A vessel is on your starboard quarter, range decreasing, bearing is constant.

Rule 7(d)(i) states that risk of collision shall be deemed to exist if the compass bearing of an approaching vessel does not appreciably change. A constant bearing with decreasing range indicates a collision course, regardless of the relative position of the other vessel.
