Rules of the Road USCG Question #1939 (Set 31)

BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND You are approaching a narrow channel. Another vessel in the channel can only be navigated safely in that channel. Which action should you take?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option D — not cross the channel if you might impede the other vessel

Rule 9(b) explicitly prohibits a vessel of less than 20 meters in length or a sailing vessel from impeding the passage of a vessel which can safely navigate only within a narrow channel or fairway. Crossing must be avoided if it creates a risk of collision or impedes the other.
