Rules of the Road USCG Question #765 (Set 12)

BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND You are on a sailing vessel with the wind on the starboard side and are approaching another sailing vessel that has the wind on the port side. Which action should you take?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option C — Maintain course and speed.

Rule 12(a)(ii) states that when each vessel has the wind on a different side, the vessel which has the wind on the port side shall keep out of the way. Since you have the wind on the starboard side, you are the stand-on vessel and must maintain course and speed.
