Rules of the Road USCG Question #585 (Set 9)

INLAND ONLY Signals shall be sounded by a power-driven vessel intending to overtake __________.

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option B — another power-driven vessel when both power-driven vessels are in sight of one another

33 CFR 83.34(a) (Rule 34) mandates that when power-driven vessels are in sight of one another and meeting or overtaking, the maneuver signals are required. Unlike International Rules, Inland Rules require these signals whenever vessels are in sight, regardless of the distance between them, provided they are power-driven.
