Navigation Problems USCG Question #106 (Set 3)

On 12 July your 0800 ZT DR position is LAT 24°15.0'N, LONG 132°30.0'W. Your vessel is on course 045°T at a speed of 15.0 knots. What is the ZT of local apparent noon (LAN)?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option D — 1152

Determine the longitude difference between the DR position and the reference meridian. Convert the difference to time (15° = 1 hour). Since the vessel is moving west, add the time difference to the 1200 zone time to find the Local Apparent Noon (LAN) at 1152.
