Navigation Problems USCG Question #54 (Set 2)

On 25 April your 1130 DR position is LAT 24°50.0'N, LONG 61°25.0'W. Your vessel is on a course of 300°T at a speed of 16.0 knots. Determine the zone time of (LAN) for your vessel.

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option B — 1204

LAN occurs when the Sun crosses the local meridian. Calculate the longitude in time (61°25'W = 4h 05m 40s). Apply the Equation of Time (approx. +2m) to the GHA of the Sun. Adjusting for the DR longitude relative to the zone meridian yields 1204 ZT.
