Navigation Problems USCG Question #1165 (Set 34)

On 3 May your 1009 zone time DR position is LAT 30°01.0'N, LONG 123°15.0'W. Your vessel is on course 330°T at a speed of 8.6 knots. What is the zone time of local apparent noon (LAN)?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option C — 1211

Local Apparent Noon occurs when the Sun crosses the observer's meridian. Calculate the longitude difference from the reference meridian (120°W). Adjust the DR position for the vessel's movement until 1200 ZT. The time difference between the DR longitude and the zone meridian determines the 1211 ZT result.
