Deck General USCG Question #1322 (Set 41)

You have orders to load cargoes of carbon disulfide, diisopropylamine and pyridine on your multi-product tankship. Which statement is TRUE?

Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option A — A tank of pyridine may be used to separate a tank of carbon disulfide from a tank of diisopropylamine.

Under 46 CFR 150 compatibility regulations, carbon disulfide (Group 38) and diisopropylamine (Group 7) are incompatible and must be separated. Pyridine (Group 9) is compatible with both, allowing a tank of pyridine to serve as an acceptable regulatory barrier separating the two incompatible cargoes.
