Official USCG Answer & Rule Citation

Correct Answer: Option D — 0048, 4.3 miles

Use the running fix method. The change in bearing is 18.5°. Calculate the time to run the distance between bearings. The time to reach the abeam position is 13 minutes after the second bearing. Using the speed of 20 knots, the distance off when abeam is calculated as 4.3 miles.
