Being a Cadet or TME at MSC Shipmanagement Limited is an exciting opportunity for young people who are passionate about a career at sea. The exam is open to both male and female candidates. After you pass out from the Training Institute, you will be assigned to a company vessel as a deck cadet or trainee marine engineer.
The selection process for the Deck Cadet program consists of three steps:
- An online entrance exam was conducted by MSC in April 2024.
- The Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET)
- A medical examination, psychometric test, and interview.

MSC Exam 2024 registration:
The MSC exam 2024 registration has already started on 06th March 2024.
Eligible candidates need to fill out the registration form on their official website. The company will post updates regarding their exams.
Important Dates for MSC Exam 2024:
- MSC exam Registration starts: 6th March 2024.
- Last date of Exam registration: 14th April 2024
- The online exam dates: 22nd / 23rd / 24th / 25th / 26th / 27th / 28th & 29th April 2024: The candidate is to select any one date, The Timings of the online exam will be notified to the candidate after the issue of the Admit card
MSC Exam 2024 Eligibility Criteria:
For Deck Cadets Exam Eligibility
- Unmarried Indian National
- Educational qualifications: 10+2 with 65% marks in PCM aggregate
- Candidates awaiting the 12th result can apply
- Medical requirements:
- All applicants must comply with the physical and medical standards as per regulations and Company standards.
- Medical examination will be done by the Company & DG Shipping Approved Doctor ONLY.
- Age requirements:
- Minimum age requirement: 17 years old as on 1st August 2024.
- Maximum age limit: 19 years old for 10+2 as on 1st August 2024.
Candidates who have completed the B.Sc Nautical Science are NOT Eligible to apply for the DNS program
For Engine Cadets Exam Eligibility
- Unmarried Indian National
- 10+2 with 65% marks in PCM aggregate
- 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th
- 55% marks in the final year of B.E. or B. Tech. degree
- Meet all physical and medical standards as per regulations and Company standards
- Minimum age requirement: 17 years old as on August 1, 2024
- Maximum age limit: 19 years old as on August 1, 2024
Medical Examination will be done by Company & DG Shipping Approved Doctor ONLY.
MSC Exam 2024 syllabus and pattern:
The online examination is a 1.5-hour paper with the following, as per the page:
- English – 15 questions
- Maths – 12 questions
- Physics – 13 questions
- General Knowledge – 10 questions
The MSC online examination syllabus includes English, Maths, Physics, and General Knowledge.
All questions are objective-type multiple-choice questions.
What are the exam fees of MSC?
IMU Charges – Rs 1000
Cost of MSC entrance exam = Approximate Rs 1000 to 1500/- payable online at the time of registration + Bank transaction charges born by the candidate may range between 0.5 to 5% depending on the service provider.
Cost of Medical & Eyesight Test = Approximate Rs 5000/- to 6000/- cash payable to MSC approved Medical Clinic
Cost of Psychometric On-Line Test= Approximate Rs 1000/- payable to MSC-approved Psychometric counselling service
Upon successful completion of the Deck Cadet program, you will be assigned to a company vessel as a Deck Cadet with a stipend of Rs 27,000 per month. You will gain valuable experience at sea and work under the supervision of qualified officers. After a few years of sea time, you will be eligible to take the exams to become a Third Officer.
